At the Stari Vrh ski resort, the construction of smaller tourism accommodation facilities is intended. At the same time the municipality seeks a strategic partner who will be able to develop potential which remains unexploited for the time being, and to harness it for the purpose of leisure tourism in the winter as well as summer, with a view of marketing the tourism destination all year long.

Location
The Stari vrh ski resort is located in the municipality Gorenja vas–Poljane. The ski resort is well known for being easily accessible, as it is located in the immediate proximity of nearby centres like Ljubljana and Škofja Loka. There are several maintained roads leading to the ski resort from various directions.

Description
Development of tourism in the Municipality of Gorenja vas embodies an activity with enormous potential. Rich natural and, above all, cultural heritage, as well as the variety and diversity of the well-preserved and well-protected natural environment, represent an excellent basis for boosting tourism. Easily accessible, the area’s underlying advantages lie in the vicinity of large urban centres and developed tourism destinations, as well as in the proximity of the main Slovenian airport. Lack of tourism facilities, along with an inadequately developed tourism infrastructure, pose the most acute problem in the field of tourism. The municipality thus actively endeavours to improve and increase the tourism offer, as well as to expand overnight accommodation options.

The vision of the ski-centre on the land of 20.000m2 with the possibility of future extension includes construction of accommodation facilities. The land is situated near a mountain hut, providing a formidable view directly next to the ski runs and nearby the magic carpet lift for children.

Further development of the ski resort in terms of international recognition would be a good next step, and the municipality thus seeks a strategic partner who will be able to develop potential remaining unexploited for the time being.

The objective of the municipality is to maintain and upgrade tourism products, and to develop new integrated tourism products in a distinct rural environment that would encompass catering offers, farms and overnight accommodation options, and cultural and natural monuments, as well as other offerings that would provide active leisure activities. The picturesque landscape, featuring Blegoš at 1562 metres above sea level and other nearby hills, is a paradise for cycling and hiking, and the area is already known for its longstanding tradition of farm tourism. These places undoubtedly have a lot of potential for future tourism development.

The ski resort boasts a brand new modern six-seater chair lift, the only one with heated seats in Slovenia, a magic carpet lift for children, and an additional four drag lifts, allowing the capacity of the resort to stand at an enviable 4,300 skiers transported per hour. The resort is endowed with 55 hectares of various ski runs that can cater to the needs of beginners and experienced skiers, and is equipped with installations so as to provide artificial snow if needed.

Estimated investment value: It depends on the potential investor.

Project stage:
The project is in its final phase of the preparation of planning documents that lay down the construction of smaller tourism accommodation facilities.

Construction schedule: 2011-2012
